Die Antwoord’s Most Twisted Video Yet

Die Antwoord’s new video, “Fok Julle Naaiers”, is just below if you’re up for it. I’m always cautious when it comes to them, I have feelings but I don’t trust them. Musically they remain that hot second cousin, nice to look at but I’m careful who I tell.

That’s the beauty of their thing, and it is a thing, it isn’t just their sound, rather a hybrid of pop-folk philosophy, era esq (though recent) rave beats, wrapped in a verbally poisonous aesthetic explosion. Yeah, I don’t know what they are, but I think that it makes them important. Not in the too-deep-for-words-nostic-mumbo-jumbo way, rather in a new paradigm, the-times-they are-a-changing sort of way.

The thing is, everyone has an opinion on them, they’ve done something beyond the relevance of ability and taste, they’ve done something on a global scale. Valuable in the sense that their craft has spawned discourse, a Warhol sized debate on quantity versus quality, on mass opinion and authentic appreciation.
